We are rightfully proud of our Canadian culture. And we recognize that it is a mosaic or blend of many cultures. Today many new cultures are being added and we celebrate the richness of even greater diversity. However, we also have difficult choices to make about the limits of tolerance for traditions that seem to conflict with our Canadian culture or even undermine it. How do we distinguish between the foreign traditions that are enriching, or at least harmless; and those that should be refused, because they represent to us a violation of human rights and dignity?
