The baptism of Jesus reminds us of the importance of being named. After Jesus was baptized he was named “the Beloved” “God’s Son”. We also hear how God named the light “day” and the darkness “night.” Names are important. Our name stands for the unique person and purpose that each of us embodies. God knows us by name, we belong, we are special. The act of naming has power. As we start this new year it is time to reaffirm our faith, to proclaim who we are and what we are being called to do.
