The scriptures for this week both explore the nature of witness. Witness is sometimes named as testimony, or evangelism, or sharing the Good News. We are reminded today that God calls Christian communities to both witness publically and witness within our community AND God calls us to provide hospitality and sanctuary to all people who seek it. The story of Mary and Martha is an example of the principle and practice of both/and, rather then either/or. How will we overcome boundaries in our world that divide and move to a place of mutual respect and understanding?
