Isaiah 61:1-11 Everlasting covenant
Luke 4:16-21 Rejection at Nazareth
Our own captivity is hard to recognize, and hard to admit. As it was for those in Jesus’ home town, Nazareth who wanted to get rid of him when he suggested that Isaiah’s words were pertinent right there and then. It is a spiritual form of captivity, so the needed liberation is necessarily a spiritual process. And, like our society today, there is a kind of captivity that persists as long as life is purged of the spiritual. In what ways do you lament our captivity and long to be free?
