Jesus’ sermon at Nazareth could be considered his mandate, his mission statement. He has heard the call of God in the words of Isaiah and while he was in the synagogue he proclaimed to the community who he is, what his ministry is about and his vision for the church. His mandate – radical asceticism. For Christians today a modern asceticism might be to live simply or in other words radical minimalism. What changes will Jesus’ vision inspire us to make so that we may live each day with our heart and not just our head?
