These stories of crossing the boundary — both ethnic and geographical — between Judah and Moab, once out of dire and bitter necessity, and once out of loving loyalty. Both are expressions of deep courage and wisdom on the part of two women whose stories became a crucial ingredient in the formulation of Israel’s identity. Now, thousands of years later, we are still touched by these stories and these profound words. What does this say about our identity and the life to which the Spirit calls us?
