The season of Lent is about discernment. It is about moving into the desert or wilderness and testing ourselves. We need to ask ourselves: What is it that we seek and why? Sometimes we get a bit lost in the wilderness, we lose sight of the end game like the Rich man who asks Jesus, “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” Sometimes we need to check our attitude and reflect on whether we are doing things for the right reason or the wrong reason. Are we doing something to seek reward? We will explore Jesus’s proclamation that the first shall be last and the last shall be first.
