John 17:10–24 • Jesus prays
The last time Jesus was together with his disciples, the conversation ends with a prayer. We hear the words of Jesus’ prayer and we hear the passion. Jesus is ready to leave his disciples—but he will never leave them. They might scatter, yet they will always be one: completely one, perfectly one. And it is in their unity that the world discerns the present of the Sacred, and comes to know the One who has sent him. It is by their discernment that we are able, these centuries later, to discern the Spirit moving in our midst, in our time, and in our world.
