Being Christian means that Jesus challenges us to live to a higher standard. We are being asked to break down the systems of oppression that produce social and physical barriers both real and perceived. The gospel prescribes an ethic of generosity for Christian living…sowing generosity where nothing is expected to grow. Jesus wants us to view our situation in reverse. The act of giving rather than retribution breaks the cycle of oppression. Judgement does not bring justice. Judgement brings retribution. What do we need to do to achieve reconciliation and justice in the church and in the world?
