When it comes to the “Transfiguration” of Jesus, his being transformed in appearance, chatting with Moses and Elijah on a mountain and the very voice of God heard in a “bright cloud”, this story is simply beyond us. That may be just the point that God’s presence is significantly in and of another realm, with occasional, brief glimpses of God’s “beyond.” We are reminded by this vivid, even mysterious story that God indeed transcends time, physical form, place, culture, religion and any other way we try to describe and understand our existence, and God’s. Yet, this story is part of our scriptures, considered as important as Jesus’ birth, teaching, miracle-working, death and resurrection. With rational explanation elusive, what feeling or feelings does this story evoke for you?
