Mark 12: 1-17 • Parable of the wicked tenants; paying taxes to Caesar
People in power in the secular world tend to live in an either-or dynamic. Powerful leaders are portrayed as people are able to convince others of the truth. They are often great at debate and never back down from a good debate. The parable of the wicked tenants is used by Jesus to teach followers a different way of seeking truth – with a holistic approach. Jesus wants us to be curious and calls us to strive for mutual understanding which is found through dialogue, where the powerless are listened to first and multi-perspectives are valued. How would a holistic truth seeking approach help us to shift to a world of equity and diversity? How will this help us to see a new way forward where love is prevalent?
