James 3:1-12 • Not many of you should be teachers of God’s word.
Mark 8:27-38 • Who do people say that I am?
Jesus asks only two questions of the disciples, “Who do people say that I am? and “who do you say that I am?” People have chosen to follow Jesus precisely because of who Jesus was. Followers are invited to be imitators of Jesus, and to continue the ministry that Jesus started. Being a follower of Christ is a call to discipleship. What is a disciple? What are the essentials that identify a disciple? God created each of as unique and wonderful individuals creating a diversity in the world. What connects us as disciples? What is our common call? Language has power to both bless and curse. How will our commitment to God be lived out in what we say, what we do, and who we are?
