Ministry of Catering for Funerals and Memorials

We are encouraged by faith, called by Jesus’ love of sharing food and inspired by the quiet joy of serving, to a ministry of supporting a grieving family. We do so by providing the hospitality and service at a refreshment or luncheon time after funerals and memorials. Along with a professional caterer, who has served our congregation for decades, so we serve tea, coffee and juice and set out the food.

Seeking Service?

For those planning a funeral or memorial service, you need only ask the office for our support. The office will put you into contact with the right person. The catering begins with a discussion of a menu, cost and venue; after decisions are made our plans proceed. Our financial mandate is to cover costs and raise funds for the United Church’s Mission and Service fund (shared in and outside of Canada with many in need).

Called to Serve?

For those of Robertson-Wesley United’s community who are prayerfully considering serving in this way please converse with committee members any time, or come along when we serve and observe what we do. We usually have a team of 4-5 people but can need more depending on how many people are believed to be attending the service. The team meets about an hour and a half before the service begins to get things set up. We host, serve and then clean up. Services often happen in the late morning or early afternoon usually during the week, but sometimes on a Saturday. Come and meet us to discern if this call to care and serve is for you.

A short history:

This ministry was begun by our congregation’s United Church Women. Since then we have developed this Ministry of Catering for funerals and memorials which also extends on occasion other events. With thanks to our founding members like Hattie, Elsie, Maxine, and Janet M, we currently are a ministry lead by Colleen Ouellette (coordinator)
